THE MUPPET STORY: With 3200years recorded history,Athens is one of the most ancient cities in the world. A powerfull city state that was the centre of philosophy, arts and science, often referred as cradle of western civilization. Nowadays, over 3,5 million citizens live in its 35 minicipalities,it has the largest passenger port in Europe, the second largest in the world, its has two of Unesco world heritage sites,Acropolis of Athens and Daphni monastiraki. So we didin't miss the chance to visit the Acropolis museum, number 2 of the subway can take you there. Designed by Bernard Tschumi in 2009,its 25000sqm welcome about 1,5 million visitors so far. With hope that the new museum will help the return of the Parthenon Marbles,is was constructed about 280m away from the original site of Acropolis and its clearly visible from every corner of the museum. Three levels exhibit over 3000 artifacts, sculptures and findings of the slopes of the Acropolis. You can admire them in natural light ,as the museum has only bacic walls needed, all the rest is glass. The top level displays the Parthenon marbles, where is pretty clear to see the missing parts. The museum is built over an archaeological site ,and the floor has transparent glass so visitors can see the excavations below. Tickets start from 5 euros, but if you want guide tour or visiting the excavation below, the price increases. It also provides amphitheater, virtual theatre and a hall of temporary exhibitions. The last few years, the night of full moon in August, the entrance is free, and remains open until midnight. Same thing happens in International museum Day.
