San Marco Pass (1992m altitude) is a soul relaxing road pass, as well known as the higher hill of the Province of Bergamo, that connects the Val Brembana to the Valtellina. Sometimes, depends on month and hour, you can feel yourself like in the middle of nowhere, just 2 wheels, the road, and the peaceful state of mind that this pass can suggest. The Valtellina side reaches gradients of 12% while the Brembano side touches tips of 16%. The Pass is about 26 km from Morbegno and 16 from Olmo al Brembo (approximately 42 km for the whole road). At the pass you can see the Republic of Venice insignia, that built this Road for an Economic trading Development with Switzerland. On the orobico side there is the Rifugio Ca San Marco, the Cantoniera house of the Passo San Marco for years, built in 1593, also known as one of the most famous refuges in the Alps. The "Giro d'Italia" climbed the Passo San Marco in 2007 from the Valtellina side, In the stage that ended in Bergamo.
