This is a 42 mile (60km) loop with something for everybody. The section south to Howden is very well surfaced with smooth tarmac. A mix of fast and tight turns with fairly light traffic. The route passes the York Air Museum at Elvington Airfield, also the site of many motor land speed record successes. After the delightful town of Howden, the route continues towards Selby. After Selby, the character of the route changes dramatically. The road surface, whilst still good, becomes very lumpy. Bends are much tighter. The road opens up after crossing the Ouse at Cawood, but watch out for damp patches under the trees after recent rain.
