30km northwest of Athens, Parnitha Mt (1400m) is the highest though least beautiful of the mountains which enclose the bowl of the Greek capital. It has been declared a natural park and is part of the Natura 2000 network. An awesome serpentine road section between the cable car and the Parnitha’s Greek Alpine Refugee (Flabouri and Bafi nature preserves) ascents the mountain offering great views of the city and the surrounding area. (It continues up to the gates of the radar tower at the summit).
