We will leave Grand Junction heading southwest to head towards Gateway. This small town, crossed by the Dolores River, is famous for its magnificent... museum dedicated to automobiles, the Gateway Auto Museum. We advise you not to miss its visit! Founded by an enthusiast, John Hendricks, creator and owner of the 'galaxy' Discovery Communications (Discovery Channel...), the museum houses about fifty cars in a beautiful adobe building. It includes a 1906 Cadillac Model H, cars from the 1930s (Packard, Duesenberg, Auburn or Cord), some big engines made in the USA (Mustang, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac), and many other models. Entrance fee ($15/person). The route continues on the pretty Route 141, which follows the course of the Dolores River. Stop at the splendid Hanging Flume viewpoint, which offers an incredible view of a meander of the Dolores River. Picnic, do not hesitate to stop at "The Ballpark Uravan campground" It is a 5-star rest area along the river. You will also find very well-maintained toilets there.
