Ljubelj pass is an ancient pass from Carintiha region in Austria to the Oberkrainer Region in nowdays Slovenia. Before the opening of Karavanke tunnel it was also one of the main connections to the Austria. Nowdays it is mostly scenic road but traffic can still be heavy. The Slovenian part is faster with more open road, with three sharp bends before the top. Austrian side is steeper, with tighter curves and narrower road. Asphalt is fine, somtimes there can be dirt or sand on the road - especially after rain. Only scenery point is before tunnel on the Slovenian side. On Slovenian side is a WW2 monument and on the Austrian side there is a gorge-trail.
