Navigate the cobbled hill through the centre of Alston before turning onto the A689. The route is lined with dry-stone walls and initially allows for fast riding. The corner over Glendue Burn after the village of Burnstones is particularly memorable. Stop in the layby and look for the idyllic wooden bridge to the west. This is part of the Pennine Way footpath. The last section of road to the west is swift and exciting.
