The road leads to a peninsula northeast of Þórshöfn, a place described in guidebooks as one of the most remote from any civilization. A gravel road of about 55 kilometers one way leads to the Fontur lighthouse, located at the end of the peninsula. The road is beautiful and empty, during the half-day that this stretch took me I met only a few cars. The second attraction is the ruins of the abandoned fishing village of Skálar. An information board describes a brief history of the village and the difficulties the residents there encountered. The road is flat but rocky with several climbs. It is passable by ordinary cars but with a road motorcycle on ordinary tires it can be tiring and risky to traverse.
