A more popular route from Kakamega to Bungoma, passing through the sugar refining town of Mumias, this route is paved and much faster than the alternatives. It's narrow for a paved road in Western Kenya, so constant vigilance for encroaching matatus is essential as the shoulder is narrow or non-existent in most places.
