Bike commuter and casual weekend trips. Prone to long weekend getaways, priorizing twisty and scenic routes as well as a good economy balance.
Amazing combination of fluid and playfull roads surrounded by the rugged mountains and the turquese sea.
Challenging narrow and very twisty road. Amazing alpine like views above the sea, so be sure to take a partner at the passenger seat so he/she can enjoy them becouse don't you dare to take a look out of the road, specially when going down.
Narrow but very pleasing, with great asphalt, ideal for light-sporty bikes.
Best part from Igualada to Sta. Coloma de Queralt. Better to turn left straight to Seguer throug T-201 instead of following the main road, since after that it gets borring and the air smells like farm.
More enjoyable north-south, as the road ascends and points directly to the mountains, offering a fantastic view. Narrow in some sections and covered with moisture in the morning. Recently re-asphalted.
Fun and panoramic, an authentic theme park. Don't hesitate to stop at Venta Juan Pito (Spanish side) 10km after having crossed the border, turning right at the end of the cascade of harpins, for a plate of "migas". Its terrace is a privileged place from where to observe the Valle del Roncal from above.
Did south to north, better to cool the pace once at the french side.
At this road (did east-west) we the bikers are just guests, as sheeps and cyclist claimed it by themselves. Even do, it doesn't undermine at all the beautiness of this place.
Full of color and variety. Slow down to take full delight of the route.
Could not rush the pass as the morning fog allowed to see less than 15 meters away, but it was fully compensated by the enchanting forest section, following the Eugi river. A quick stop at the ruins of the old weapon factory, in the middle of the route, is mandatory.
A delightful riverside road, with tens of kilometers through the dense forest (avoid claustrophobics) and different sections for every type of rider.
Hadn't the views I expected as most of the time the road goes through interior, but when they finally came, didn't dissapointed. Asphalt could be better. Iconic road for most of us.
Ascending from south to north, the first half has fast and wide corners. From Sant Hilari Sacalm to Osor it turns to a twisty narrow forest road, following the riverside. Even do many (many!) corners are blind, it is a very fun road. Wet surface is usual during out-of-the-summer months, but other than that the tarmac tends to be clean and in very good condition.
It is not called the "365" for nothing, as from Tossa de Mar to Sant Feliu de Guixols there are exaclty that many curves! Such concentration means that there aren't that many straight segments to overtake, so calculate your chances well when you feel ready to do so. The good news are that nearly none of the curves are blind. Be extra carefull on summer season as the road may be saturated with pedestrians wandering from their cars to the entrances of the beaches.
Nothing to envy to other renowned roads. Specially the section alongside the Douro. Photos are from the southern village of Escalhao.
A nice site to stop and contemplate some awesome views before reaching the mythical N222.
There is no despicable section along this road. I blame myself for being late to my final destination (Porto) as otherwise I could have enjoyed more going through the little riverside villages, way before reaching the urban area. Even do, it was a sublime experience.
Starting from Roda the Ter, the first section goes through a vast area of rural fields so be careful with the farming machinery and the animal waste. Even do the the open wide curves with high visibility allow some good lines, even if the tarmac gets a but bumpy from time to time. Reaching "La Selva" means you entered the second section, night and day as it gets a lot windier and the line must be foreseen due to the dense vegetation that nearly invades the road. The enjoyment does not have to end at Sant Esteve d'en Bas, with its great views of the Collsacabra, as the regions of La Vall d'en Bas and La Garrotxa presents themselves as another appealing chapter of your morning route.
